What is a Sexual Soul Tie?

Jesus was very clear about the potential for problems with sexual immorality when He warned us in Matthew 15:17-20 – Jesus asked them, “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.”

When Jesus offered comfort to the woman at the well (who had many husbands) He was clear that forgiveness and healing were available through repentance to those who had sinned – even in the area of sexual immorality.  Paul encourages followers to repent of the “impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged” (II Corinthians 12:21).  This repentance is what we refer to as “shattering sexual soul ties.”

When someone has sex outside of marriage their hearts become unclean. The memories of these sexual encounters are something that Satan can use to encourage them to continue sinning or discourage them from receiving God’s complete healing or anointing.

Many people who started viewing pornography at a young age became addicted quickly. The same can be true of sexual experiences with various partners. Once you cross the line and your virginity is no longer in place, it can be hard to stop. The memories of these past sexual encounters can still arouse sinful thoughts as well!

Jesus was obvious in the Matthew 15:16-20 passage when He revealed that out of the heart come evil thoughts…sexual immorality. When people get to the point of accepting Jesus into their hearts and start to live a lifestyle that He desires, rarely do they go back and purge themselves of these sexual memories. The process of purging is what we refer to as “breaking sexual soul ties.”
